Located at the northern edge of Mt. Iwate, this is a vast forest park covering an area of 360 hectares, which is about 80 times the size of Tokyo Dome. The park is home to about 200 species of wild birds and mammals such as black bears and Japanese serows.
At the foot of the mountain, a forest of Mongolian oak and beech trees spreads out, and a variety of trees have been planted in this well-maintained park. The tree-lined paths with birch and hydrangea scattered about make for a great atmosphere for a stroll. At the Forestry Museum, there are exhibits on nature and forestry in Iwate, and wooden playground equipment such as a large wooden slide, which children love. Craft activities using natural materials such as nuts are also quite popular. You can also try your hand at woodworking with tools at the Wood Craft Center. There is also a campsite with a cooking area and wooden deck, where visitors can easily learn about and experience the nature of Iwate. In addition, there are three walking courses (1.4 km, 1.6 km, and 2.8 km) to choose from, depending on how much time you have and your level of fitness.
