APPI + Shimokura Shared Tree Run Zone Rules

The tree run zones are some of the largest in Japan and have great quality snow. However, these areas are for advanced skiers and snowboarders only as they carry more risks than normal slopes. Please follow the rules and recommendations below to enjoy the area safely.

Tree Run Skiing

Rules

  • Obey all “No Skiing” signs, and avoid all zones currently designated as “No Skiing” zones.
  • Register at the reception desk of each ski resort before entering their tree run zone, and wear the designated armband while there.
  • Always wear a helmet.
  • Single skiers, and unattended groups of children elementary or younger may not enter.
  • Only enter a zone using the designated entrance/gate.

Be Prepared

  • Collisions, snow burial, avalanches, etc. can be life-threatening, even for advanced skiers
  • *These risks apply to all ski resort areas, and safety should always be your top priority.
  • When entering a zone, pay attention to the movements of other skiers around your for safety.
  • When rejoining the main slopes from a tree run zone, always check your surroundings, stopping if necessary, in order to avoid endangering yourself and others.
  • Wearing an avalanche beacon is recommended.

Area Operations

  • Pink tape and caution signs indicate “No Skiing” zones. Crossing into the areas beyond these markers is prohibited.
  • While each zone has specified open hours, patrollers may shorten those hours or close a zone altogether at their discretion.
  • In the event of poor conditions due to snowfall, fog, fallen trees, ice, etc., patrollers may decide to close a zone to skiing, and close the entrance/gate.
  • Regardless of whether you are in or out of a tree run zone each ski resort will charge a fee for rescue.
  • Failure to follow the rules will result in your lift ticket being confiscated.
