Sawaguchi Sake Store is one of the coolest spot to visit in Hachimantai, located within a minute distance by car, from Nishine Interchange, the first gate of Hachimantai. Since Sawaguchi opened its door in 1971, Sawaguchi has been the liquor store that sells the remarkable, local sake “Washino’o.” The owner’s selected sake, wine and other liquors from all over Japan are lined up, keeping them in the best condition. There is the Japanese room up of the store, for enjoying your sake. The room, often opened for parties, is also available with catering food (ask the owner for details).
The best season to visit here is winter and summer. In the hiking season – May to October, lots of local people get together and enjoy BBQ in the parking lot beside the store. This is the moment when many of Hachimantai people burst their joy! Whereas, in winter, surrounding the traditional Japanese fire place – Irori, with the owner and his family, plus his Shiba dog, you will have the relaxing moment in the store.
All local people such as farmers, sake stores, sake lovers and brewers created the ideal sake. This is the one.
This is the dry Washino’o, being matured for two years.
Fresh, smooth, and undiluted sake. This is produced only in mid December.
