Currently, about 98% of the lacquer used in Japan is from foreign countries. Appi-nuri uses lacquer from Iwate, which is now extremely rare.This makes traditional craft items that emit a soft luster that is unique to Japanese lacquer. The Appi Urushi Studio is working to continue the traditional lacquer culture of Hachimantai, Iwate.
