zakka & café nii-ni is a combination goods shop and lunch spot that opened its doors in Hachimantai in July, 2021. Visitors can take in the woody, lounging atmosphere while sampling from their health-conscious menu.
Nii-ni’s “Onigiri Plate” comes especially highly recommended, consisting of a selection of comfort food rice balls and miso-infused fried chicken. The rice balls come in several varieties including salmon & spinach with egg, cod roe & perilla leaf with cheese, and mixed chicken, and are made with rice that has had plenty of grilled goby fish stock flavor added. (Note that the rice ball menu changes seasonally; pictured is the 2021 autumn-exclusive “salmon, edamame & salted kelp.)
Alternatively, how about their avocado & grilled salmon sandwich? The creamy avocado combines exceptionally well with the dill-marinated salmon flavor. They also offer different teas, including “anti-stress” (chamomile and citrus), sweet & sour (strawberry & rose), and wellness (soy burdock & cinnamon) blends, each made with care for your health by the store owner.
A goods shop is also set up next to the café space. Here you’ll find unique goods from all over the country, each one personally selected for their personality and individuality. As the owner themselves works in producing such goods, they stock whatever items stand out to them by fellow makers.
