Winter is nearly here! This is arguably the best season to enjoy Hachimantai, though of course there are all sorts of exciting activities throughout the year. That said- winter is particularly breathtaking up here!
From around January every year, the mighty Nanataki Falls begins to freeze, slowly growing in size as it does, eventually swelling to a massive tower of ice much larger than the waterfall appears during the warmer months.
You can join a tour to snowshoe through the forest to the base of this waterfall from late January through February! It’s something that locals look forward to every year!
