Designated an important cultural asset by the city government, The Hadaka Mairi is an annual shrine walk held to promote a bountiful harvest, as well as health for oneself and one's family.  Wearing a traditional white ensemble with sandals and carrying a piece of white paper in the mouth, participants walk in a single line from place to place and pray.  The event begins at Hirakasa's Miyata Shrine and continues for roughly 8 kilometers to Obuke's Yasaka Shrine.  Though Hadaka Mairi itself is not unique to Hachimantai, Hachimantai's version is notably different in that women and girls participate in the walk as well, in significant numbers.
