Held each year in mid-August, Hachimantai’s Hanabi Matsuri, or Fireworks Festival, is not to be missed! The event is headlined by a series of taiko drumming performances, followed by a traditional Sansa dance. A merry combination of drumming, flute-playing and singing, the Sansa is closely tied to Iwate’s cultural DNA. And as the sun sets and the festival draws to a close, visitors are treated to a spectacular fireworks display.
Of course, what truly sets the Fireworks Festival in Hachimantai apart is its relaxed atmosphere. This is as much a friendly gathering as it is a public event, so feel free to bring a chair or blanket, and hang out with the community! You may even be invited to join the Sansa dance!
